ABSTRACT A study was carried out among pregnant women in Liii sub county. Liii district with the purpose of assessing impact of PMTCT on mother baby pair retention at the treatment points in liii sub county. A descriptive and cross sectional design was employed and 100 (thirty) respondents were selected using simple random sampling procedure. Data was collected using an interview guide and observational tool. A total number of 100 pregnant women were included in this study. The age of pregnant women included in this study ranged between 15 and 45 years.. About 67.3% of the respondents reported that they had under gone voluntary counseling for HIV testing. 97.6% ofthe pregnant women who undenvent counseling were tested for HIV and 94.8% of those who were tested received the test result. Rural women were more likely to decline individual voluntary counseling after group information in the antenatal setting [AOR (953’oC.l.) 0.22 (0.14. 0.35). With respect to occupation of women. lirmers were more likely to decline counseling compared to those who are not farmers [AOR (95%CJ.)= 0.44 (0.22. 0.99]. Pregnant women who had formal schooling were more likely to undergo voluntary I-lW counseling compared to those without formal schooling (AOR (95% Cl) = 3.67 (1.56. 8.61)). Most respondents were awere of vct. though some were skeptical about pmtct. even when information was readily availed
